It is coming up to four years since the last Jamie T album, two years since his latest release and three years since his last show so for many fans of Jamie T, like myself, the question is where is he?
Despite working with Miles Kane on his most recent album 'Coup De Grace' we have not had new Jamie T material in a while now. We haven't even had a sniff of when we may get new material from him on social media so gaging when we are finally going to get our fix of the London born artist remains a mystery.
I have heard memerings that a new album is firmly in the works however, and if it is anything like his already impressive discography I can't wait, but why is there so much mystery around the man behind 'Sheila' and 'Sticks n' Stones'?
If you know anything about the history of Jamie T, real name Jamie Treays, you'll know that this isn't the first time he has taken a hiatus from music without speaking out. A man who has always hated interviews and speaking about himself, as well as suffering with serious anxiety, it is understandable that Jamie tries to stay away from the spotlight and keep himself to himself.
His first hiatus from music came after critical acclaim for his second album when Jamie was fighting serious mental health issues including anxiety and panic attacks, before coming back in 2014 with, in my opinion, his best album 'Carry On The Grudge'. He stated that his personal battles were not over, but he had not completely overcome them so we can not rule out this being one of the reasons he has kept so quiet over the past couple of years.
However, a more plausable argument to be made is that Jamie is just a down to earth artist who does want to keep himself to himself and like I said, is working on music as we speak.
The rumours surrounding Jamie T’s new album come from an unlikely source - his barber. When providing Jamie with his classic haircut, a conversation was struck up on whether any new material was in the works, Jamie reportedly answering with a resounding yes.
As music fans we always want more from our artists, but we have to remember that they are not performing monkeys for our enjoyment and that the human being behind the act have their own personal issues and problems.
I will be so grateful to hear another fresh Jamie T tune, but for now, I just hope the man behind Jamie T has managed to overcome all the mental health issues of his past and is living a happy and healthy life.
