A beautifully somber track to close a wonderful EP
As the final track on their latest EP 'Calm Before the Storm', ‘Old’ is the perfect track to close. Choosing for a more downbeat closer, the song reflects on the past and on people that come and go, and the what could have been.
'Old' leaves you with an overwhelming sense of regret that life doesn’t go the way we plan most of the time, but also that in society we seem to always compare our lives with our peers and that only adds to the regret we feel.
There is quite the contrast between the lyrics and the instrumentation, it’s uplifting and draws comparisons to songs such as ‘The Universal’ by Blur. The britpop infusion is perfect for first time listeners, as there is a certain familiarity to the sound whilst still sounding fresh and current.
If you haven’t listened to this track yet, I urge you to. The DDE’s flex their lyrical prowess on this track, and it’s worth a listen.
