Throwback of the week (1st November)

Sundara Karma - Flame

Sundara Karma have taken over the ‘indie-rock’ scene in recent years, and this is why their arguably most popular song ‘Flame’ is today’s throwback.

If I had to pick a song to soundtrack my 2016, this would have been it. It’s upbeat demeanour and groovy guitars prominent throughout, bring back feelings of walking into the field at a festival, heading straight to various stages to enjoy a day of belting music.

The delivery of the lyrics "The shackles open, we're finally free to bolt, if you're done with believing" complement the movement into the main chorus; one the crowd always go mad for at one of their gigs.

This track is a performable song which encapsulates everything there is about this genre. It’s one of those songs that people ask ‘where do I know this from?’ which highlights its recognisable tune - most likely having been heard on the FIFA 18 soundtrack, or down at the pub.

The track is the title song on their debut album ‘Youth is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect’; and while it is certainly one of their more recognisable tunes there’s plenty more where that came from.
